Martin Riggs wears the same watch in Lethal Weapon 2 that he wore in the original, a continuity choice that helped make it famous: collectors now call the TAG Heuer Formula 1 reference 383.513/1 the "Lethal Weapon" watch. Richard Donner returned to direct, Jeffrey Boam took over the screenplay from Shane Black, Joe Pesci joined as the motormouth Leo Getz, and the plot sent Riggs and Murtaugh after South African diplomats hiding behind immunity.
TAG Heuer launched the Formula 1 in 1986, a year before the first Lethal Weapon, as its entry-level sports line, built to put the new name on younger wrists at a fraction of the price of its chronographs. Riggs's is the black fiberglass-coated version, a roughly 35mm quartz watch that listed for under $200. On a reckless cop living in a beachfront trailer, it fits in a way a precious-metal watch never would.
