In the first season of Succession, before Tom Wambsgans traded up to a Cartier Santos and then the steel Audemars Piguet Royal Oak of the final season, he wore what looked like a Panerai Luminor. In this scene he leans in beside Shiv in a dark sweater and open collar, and the watch shows as a black dial on a brown leather strap, the oversized cushion case the brand made its name on.
It was not a genuine Panerai. The piece the production put on Matthew Macfadyen was a replica, catalogued by Heritage Auctions as resembling a Panerai Luminor Power Reserve, reference 00090, on a brown leather band with tan stitching and a silver buckle. Dressing an actor in a lookalike is ordinary practice on film and television, and when Heritage later sold off Succession props, this screen-used replica crossed the block as Tom's Season 1 watch.
The stand-in suits the character. In these early episodes Tom is the striver marrying into the Roy family, reaching for money that is not yet his, and a convincing copy of an expensive watch quietly says the same thing. The real upgrades come later, once he has clawed his way in.
