Matt Dillon wears a Rolex

Randy is the easygoing bartender at McCool's, and Jewel is the woman who walks into the bar and rearranges his life around what she wants. In one quiet beat he is alone in a walk-in closet just after midnight, going through the drawers, and turns up a small handful of wristwatches. He picks out a Rolex and puts it on. The film never makes much of the moment, yet it holds the whole of Randy in a single gesture: a man trying on a richer life that was never his to keep.
