Matt Damon doesn't show up until the third act of Saving Private Ryan, and when he does, he barely looks old enough to be carrying a rifle. Steven Spielberg's 1998 war film is really about Tom Hanks' Captain Miller and the cost of the mission to retrieve one paratrooper whose three brothers have been killed in action. Damon plays Ryan as a kid who doesn't understand why eight men would risk their lives to bring him home. He is found defending a bridge in a bombed-out French town, and when Miller tells him his brothers are dead, Ryan's first instinct is to ask which ones.
His watch has not been identified, though a 1944 paratrooper in the 101st Airborne would likely be wearing military-issue: an A-11 specification watch from Elgin, Waltham, Hamilton, or Bulova, all of which produced watches to that spec during the war. The film's prop department was meticulous about period accuracy, and whatever is on Damon's wrist would need to look right for Normandy in June 1944.
