Matt Damon wears a Hamilton Ardmore

Tom Ripley is a poor New Yorker with a gift for forgery and impersonation, sent to Italy to bring home the wayward son of a shipping magnate. Matt Damon plays him in Anthony Minghella's adaptation of the Patricia Highsmith novel, opposite Jude Law as Dickie Greenleaf, the golden expatriate Ripley befriends, envies, and eventually kills. Gwyneth Paltrow, Cate Blanchett, and Philip Seymour Hoffman fill out the circle of wealthy Americans drifting through a carefully reconstructed late-1950s Italy.

On Ripley's wrist is a Hamilton Ardmore, the rectangular Art Deco model Hamilton first sold in the 1930s. Worldtempus, in its account of Hamilton's long history with filmmakers, places the Ardmore on Ripley directly. It is a slim, formal dress watch, gold-cased with a squared dial on a dark leather strap.
