Matt Damon gained around thirty pounds to play Mark Whitacre in Steven Soderbergh's The Informant! (2009). Whitacre is a vice president at Archer Daniels Midland who turns FBI informant on his company's international price-fixing scheme while quietly embezzling some nine million dollars of his own. Scott Bakula and Joel McHale play the agents who slowly realize their witness is a compulsive liar, and the film runs Whitacre's rambling inner monologue, about neckties, polar bears, and indoor pools, as a recurring joke.
