When her father throws her out, Yasmin Kara-Hanani keeps the watch. In HBO's Industry, Marisa Abela plays her as old money among people trying to make some, and the watch is a hand-me-down: her grandmother's Cartier Tank Louis Cartier, rose gold on a leather strap. By costume designer Laura Smith's account, it carried too much sentimental value to let go.
The Tank Louis Cartier is the most classical version of a watch Louis Cartier first drew in 1917: hand-wound, no date, no bezel, gold on a leather strap. Harper Stern, who is building wealth rather than inheriting it, buys three in a single season: a Tank Must de Cartier, a TAG Heuer Link, and an Oris Aquis. Yasmin did not buy hers.
The watches do some of the marriage's work, too. Industry's creators, Mickey Down and Konrad Kay, asked for a Rolex Datejust on Yasmin's husband Henry (Kit Harington); Smith tracked down a rare one and matched it to the Cartier so that, in her words, optically you would believe they were a couple. By that point the marriage and their company, Tender, are both going under. The matched watches keep the couple believable when little else does.
