There is a real ship called HMS Tamar. She is a River-class patrol vessel of the Royal Navy, forward-deployed to the far side of the world, and the only ship in the modern fleet painted in dazzle, the jagged grey-and-black camouflage the navy first used at the end of the First World War to throw off a U-boat's aim and then dropped after 1945. In April 2021 the Royal Navy brought the pattern back and put it on her. Cabot Watch Company then put the ship on a watch.

The CWC Tamar is that watch, reference 73978. Its dial carries the ship's dazzle pattern in broken greys and black, and its markers are colored like a vessel's running lights: a red one for port, a green one for starboard, HMS Tamar's own navigation lights, the rest in white. A red lion sits in the lower dial, lifted straight from the ship's crest. Under the storytelling it is a plain, serious tool, a 41-millimeter steel diver with a sapphire crystal, a 120-click bezel, a screw-down crown and caseback, and 300 meters of water resistance, run by a Ronda 517 Swiss quartz movement. It sells for £899, a little over a thousand dollars. CWC built it with the sign-off of HMS Tamar's first commanding officer, and a serving crew member can have his name and service number cut into the back.

That is a great deal of British naval history to strap onto a man in a dinosaur movie. In Jurassic World Rebirth, Gareth Edwards's 2025 film, Mahershala Ali plays Duncan Kincaid, the captain who runs the boat that carries the team to a forbidden tropical island to draw blood from the largest animals alive. The movie never stops on his wrist, and it has no reason to know what HMS Tamar is. CWC knows. The company has supplied the British armed forces with issued watches for more than fifty years, and it ran the Duncan Kincaid placement on its own homepage, beside the CWC GS Sapphire that Scarlett Johansson wears in the same film.
