Segev Azulai leads tourists around Tel Aviv, a mild job for a man who spent years in Israeli special forces. Lior Raz plays him, and the part comes from the same place as Fauda, the series he created with Avi Issacharoff about hard men trying to hold an ordinary life. Segev's American wife, a dancer named Danielle, is run down in the street on her way to the airport. It is staged to look like a hit-and-run. It is not, and the trail leads to New York, where Segev goes after the people who ordered her death and learns how little he knew about the woman he married. Netflix released the show in August 2021 and cancelled it the next month, after a single season, on a cliffhanger it never resolved.
By MTM's own account, the watch Segev wears is the Black SEAL. MTM Special Ops is the brand that builds LED flashlights into watch cases and once fitted one with a working Geiger counter, the RAD, to read gamma radiation off the wrist. The SEAL leaves the gadgets out. It is a plain dive watch and a severe one: a blacked-out 45mm titanium case, water-resistant to a thousand meters, with a helium escape valve, a carbon-fiber dial, and tritium gas tubes on the hands and markers that MTM says glow on their own for 25 years with no light to charge them. The reference reads SEABLKTITMTM, and MTM lists it around 2,450 dollars.
The helium valve is there for a saturation diver decompressing in a steel bell. Segev spends the show on dry land, carrying a grief and a grudge through Tel Aviv apartments and New York side streets, nowhere near the depth the watch was built to survive. A year after Hit & Run, Raz signed on as an ambassador for Omega, the brand whose Seamaster James Bond wears. For this show, by the maker's telling, he wore a tactical diver from a company most people have never heard of.
