Lee Marvin spent the last decade of his career working often in Europe. In Yves Boisset's Dog Day (Canicule, 1984), he plays Jimmy Cobb, an American bank robber who turns up at an isolated farmhouse in the French countryside with the police closing in and a fortune in stolen cash, and finds the farming family every bit as dangerous as the law outside. He was sixty when he made it, and he anchors the film with the stillness he had brought to violent men for thirty years.
The watch on his wrist has been identified as a steel Rolex Datejust. Rolex has made the Datejust, its automatic with a date window at three o'clock, continuously since 1945, and by the 1980s it was among the most recognizable watches in the world.
