In the first season of The Boys, Butcher brings Mother's Milk back to the team. He pulls him out of a quieter stretch: a job at a juvenile detention center, a polo that reads Amsterdam Juvenile Detention Center, a desk with a white mug on it that says Bad Ass. Laz Alonso plays him as the steady one, the member who keeps the crew in order while Butcher breaks things. The watch on his wrist is a Timex Waterbury Chronograph.
It is a quartz chronograph on a black leather strap: a grey dial with small orange accents, a polished steel case, two pump pushers flanking a knurled crown. Propstore later sold it as a production asset from the show, with a certificate of authenticity, packed in the glasses case marked M.M. Season 1 beside the wraparound sunglasses and the Bad Ass mug from his desk.
The dial carries two lines. TIMEX sits to the right of center; below it, in script, The Waterbury, Since 1854. It is a Timex, and it costs about what a Timex costs, a little over a hundred dollars, which is the whole of the man: the one who does the job while the others make the mess. The older date is the one to read. Timex has gone by that name only since 1950; the 1854 belongs to the Waterbury Clock Company of Waterbury, Connecticut, the firm that grew into Timex by selling a working watch the ordinary person could afford.
