Jack Crawford wears the same watch through all three seasons of Hannibal, a band of polished steel that shows at the cuff of a dark suit. Laurence Fishburne plays him as authority under strain, the agent who runs the FBI's Behavioral Science Unit out of Quantico and keeps sending the empath Will Graham back into the minds of killers. As he puts it, he would rather Graham go a little mad than watch more citizens die. He is the institutional weight of the show, and he carries more guilt than he admits, beginning with the trainee he lost to the Chesapeake Ripper.
The watch is a Michael Kors, stainless steel, a chronograph thick with subdials and pushers on a link bracelet. It is a fashion-house piece rather than a watchmaker's. Michael Kors sells handbags and ready-to-wear, and the watches that carry the name are built under license by the Fossil Group, an arrangement running since 2004. They are quartz, and they cost a few hundred dollars at the counter. The look does the work: a watch that reads as serious from across a room without asking anyone to actually know watches. On a senior agent it lands exactly right, expensive enough to show he has arrived and common enough that no one would call it vain.
So the man who hunts serial killers for the FBI, who keeps an empath on staff to read the worst of them, wears a watch from the company best known for its handbags. Propstore sold the screen-worn example at the Hannibal series auction in April 2016, two separate lots, each with a certificate of authenticity, each still running.
