Kingo has spent centuries as a Bollywood movie star, playing his own father, grandfather, and great-grandfather down the generations so no one notices he never ages. When the Eternals reassemble he turns up with a valet and a documentary crew in tow, and on his wrist is an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak that has no business in a Marvel film. Kumail Nanjiani, a known watch enthusiast, wears it as Kingo: the Royal Oak Self-Winding Chronograph in frosted 18-karat white gold, case and bracelet both, with a deep purple Grande Tapisserie dial. Audemars Piguet released it in 2019 as a limited run of 200.
Frosted gold is a hammered finish that throws back light like crushed ice. On a standard Royal Oak it is already an indulgence; on the chronograph, in white gold, in purple, in an edition of 200, it is about as deep into Audemars Piguet esoterica as a film has reached. Nanjiani does not wear it in the superhero costume, which carries no watch at all; the Royal Oak shows in his civilian scenes, including the team's preparation to fight the Deviants.
Eternals (2021), directed by Chloe Zhao, follows immortal beings who have quietly guided humanity for seven thousand years. Of everything on screen, the watch on Kingo's wrist is the detail watch collectors clocked first.
