The trailer for Jimmy includes a shot of James Stewart in an olive Army Air Forces uniform, a major's gold oak leaves on the shoulders, crouched against a stone wall with both hands over his head while a woman holds on to him. On his left wrist is a small steel watch on an olive strap.
It is almost certainly a Type A-11. Bulova supplied the production with original wartime pieces from its own museum, and Stewart's daughter, Kelly Stewart Harcourt, has said the watches in Jimmy are those originals, worn on screen. The A-11 was a military specification issued in 1942 and built by Bulova, Elgin and Waltham: a black dial with white numerals and hands, a center seconds hand, and a hand-wound movement of at least 15 jewels that hacks. Pull the crown and the seconds hand stops, so a whole crew can set their watches to the same second. So many were made that it became known as "the watch that won the war."
Aaron Burns's film stars KJ Apa as Stewart and follows him from his Academy Award for The Philadelphia Story through twenty missions over Europe to It's a Wonderful Life. It opens on November 6, 2026.
Bulova marked the release with a modern version it calls the A-11 Jimmy, reference 96A354: 37 mm of steel, a sapphire crystal, a Miyota 9039 automatic and 50 m of water resistance, at $795.
