Kevin Costner plays Beau Burroughs in Rumor Has It..., a wealthy bachelor who may have been the inspiration for Benjamin Braddock in The Graduate, having allegedly seduced both a mother and daughter in the same family decades ago. Rob Reiner directed this 2005 romantic comedy, which imagines that the Pasadena family in Charles Webb's novel was based on real people. Jennifer Aniston plays Sarah, who discovers that Beau slept with both her grandmother and her mother, and then finds herself attracted to him as well. Costner plays Beau as effortlessly charming, the kind of man who has coasted on good looks and money his whole life without ever having to grow up. The film's premise is better than its execution, and it received mixed reviews, but Costner seems to enjoy playing a romantic lead again after years of more serious roles.
