When Miles Straume turns up in the fourth season of Lost, he arrives with the freighter team, a prickly young medium who can hear the recently dead and is not above charging the living to make them go quiet. Ken Leung plays him with a flat, funny wariness that carried the character through the show's final three seasons, from his introduction in "Confirmed Dead" to the end. One detail stays constant the whole way: the watch.

It is a Red Monkey Supernova GT, a 43.5mm brushed-and-polished steel chronograph sunk into the wide studded leather cuff that is the maker's signature. Red Monkey Designs is a Los Angeles leather house that built its name on hand-tooled rock-and-roll gear, guitar straps and cuffs for the likes of KISS and Metallica, and its cuff-watches set a working dial, here a black-and-white day-date chronograph on a Citizen quartz movement, into a band closer to a bracer than a strap. On a character who spends the series as the outsider with one foot in the world of the dead, a watch worn like armor fits him about right.
