In Arnaud and Jean-Marie Larrieu's Les Derniers Jours du Monde, a 2009 French film about a man drifting across France and Spain as the world quietly ends, Karin Viard plays Chloé. By the time she made it, Viard had been a fixture of French cinema for two decades, equally at ease in broad comedy and serious drama, and she had won the César for Best Actress in 2000 for Haut les cœurs!.
The watch is a Chanel J12 in black ceramic. Jacques Helleu, Chanel's artistic director, designed it in 2000 around a high-tech ceramic borrowed from aerospace rather than from traditional watchmaking. The case is lighter than steel and highly scratch-resistant. The J12 became one of the few fashion-house watches that serious watch collectors actually respect, partly because Chanel contracted its movements from reputable Swiss suppliers rather than cutting corners.
On screen the watch reads only as a dark round shape on Viard's wrist. The black ceramic J12 identification comes from a 2009 report in the French watch press, not from anything legible in the frame.
