In Bad Teacher, Cameron Diaz's burned-out teacher sets her sights on Scott Delacorte, a sweet, loaded substitute played by Justin Timberlake, mostly for his money. The film tells you how loaded in a single exchange. She notices his watch and asks, "Is that a Jaeger-LeCoultre?" He answers, "It's a family business."

The watch is a Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control. JLC launched the line in 1992, named for the 1,000 Hours Control test it puts the watches through, and built it as a deliberately plain dress watch: a silvered dial, dauphine hands, Arabic numerals at six, nine, and twelve, and a small date window. Watch sites that logged the appearance peg it as the Master Control reference Q1398420, the steel time-and-date version. In the schoolyard still here the watch hides under his jacket cuff, but you do not need to see it. The movie says the name out loud.
