In Ron Howard's The Da Vinci Code (2006), Jürgen Prochnow plays André Vernet, the manager of the Paris branch of the Depository Bank of Zurich. Vernet helps Robert Langdon and Sophie Neveu reach the safe deposit box that holds the cryptex, then smuggles them out of the bank in its armored truck before stopping on a dark road and pulling a gun to take the box for himself. The film holds on his wrist as he grips the wheel in his driver's gloves.

The watch is a Rolex Cosmograph Daytona, and the film gives it a clear close-up: three chronograph subdials, an engraved tachymeter bezel, and a steel Oyster bracelet, the configuration Rolex has used since it launched the Daytona in 1963 as a chronograph built for racing drivers. The tachymeter scale around the bezel is there to read average speed over a measured mile. Montres de Luxe, the watch site that first noted the sighting, also recorded it as a Daytona with a black dial.
