On Solotov's wrist sits a 44mm slab of blacked-out metal, a chronograph worn over a camouflage sleeve. Josh Stewart plays Solotov, the Chechen sniper that USA Network's Shooter (2016 to 2018) builds as the one marksman able to match Bob Lee Swagger. Ryan Phillippe plays Swagger, the Marine that Mark Wahlberg had carried in the 2007 film the series reworks. The show makes Solotov the man who killed Swagger's spotter, Donny Fenn, and ended his career in the Marines, the loss that drives the rest of it.

The watch is an MTM Special Ops Black Predator II, built like a tool. The case is machined from a solid block of steel or titanium, about 15mm thick, coated in black DLC, capped with a sapphire crystal and a screw-down crown, with a Swiss Ronda 5040.D quartz chronograph inside, and MTM still builds it to order from roughly 960 to 1,590 dollars. Water resistance runs to 200 meters, which on a man who lives in dust and scrub is dead weight he will never use. What he does use is the light: tiny tritium tubes on the hands and markers that glow green on their own for about 25 years, no button to thumb and no daylight to store, so a sniper can check the time in the dark without giving away his position.

None of this is squinting at a freeze-frame. MTM keeps a public page of the productions its watches have appeared in, and Solotov's Black Predator II is on it by name. The brand had dressed Josh Stewart once before, fixing its Black Patriot to his wrist in The Dark Knight Rises.
