Josh Lucas wears a Rolex Submariner

On a half-wrecked oil platform off the Mexican coast, Paul Sturges holds his daughter's face in his hands, and on his wrist is a Rolex Submariner. You can read it clearly in the frame: a two-tone Oyster bracelet in steel and gold, a black ceramic bezel, a black dial with round markers and Mercedes hands. Rolex only makes the two-tone Submariner as the Date model, a watch that listed for about fifteen thousand dollars the year the film came out.

The Submariner is Rolex's dive watch, rated to three hundred meters. Sturges spends The Black Demon on the rig trying to keep his family out of the water, which is where the megalodon is. The identification is not really in doubt: the steel-and-gold bracelet and the ceramic bezel are unmistakable, and a watch-spotting database and a French watch blog both name it the two-tone Submariner Date. What none of them can supply is the exact reference, so it stays a two-tone Submariner, model clear and number open.
