Josh Lucas wears a Citizen 6501 Automatic

Red Dog tells the true story of a kelpie who roamed the Pilbara, the iron-ore country of northwest Australia, through the 1970s, hitching rides and adopting a string of temporary owners. Kriv Stenders directed the 2011 film, and Josh Lucas plays John Grant, the American bus driver the dog settles on.

On Grant's wrist is a vintage Citizen 6501 automatic, the day-date version of Citizen's 6000 caliber, in the faceted, integrated-bracelet case the brand built in the 1970s. The dial reads gold-green in the light, and the angular TV-screen case marks it as a Citizen of that era; the probable reference is the 4-651669 TA. The dial wordmark does not resolve in the frame, so the identification rests on that case shape, and a 1970s Citizen sits right for a man working the Pilbara in the decade the film is set.
