Josh Hutcherson wears a Casio G-Shock DW-5600

Mike Schmidt takes the night shift at an abandoned pizzeria for one reason the film states plainly: if he loses another job, his estranged aunt Jane takes custody of his little sister Abby. Josh Hutcherson plays him in Five Nights at Freddy's, which Emma Tammi directed from a script she wrote with Seth Cuddeback and Scott Cawthon, the creator of the video game itself, and which Universal released to theaters and Peacock on the same day, October 27, 2023. Inside Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, the animatronic mascots turn out to be possessed by murdered children.

The watch on Mike's wrist took some finding. G-Central, the G-Shock specialist site, identified a Casio DW-5600, most likely the DW5600E-1V, and described its own evidence honestly: the watch is covered by sleeves during much of the film, clearly visible only a few times, and briefly visible in the trailer. The site also made the case for the choice: this is one of the most affordable G-Shocks made, around 50 dollars at retail, plausible for a young security guard trying to make ends meet. In the production still of Mike in the party room, only the dark edge of the case shows at his cuff, which is the watch's screen life in miniature.

The film the watch hides in did not hide at all. It took 297.2 million dollars worldwide on a 20 million dollar budget, the best opening weekend for a horror film in 2023 and the best in Blumhouse's history, ahead of Halloween from 2018. The critics called it muddled and decidedly unscary; the audiences that made it a hit graded it far better.
