Joseph Chang wears a Rolex Datejust

Liu Li-min was Taiwan's top news anchor once, and The Post-Truth World (2022) opens on what is left of that career: a has-been running an internet news channel, until a convicted former sports star escapes from prison and takes him hostage on camera. Joseph Chang plays Liu; Edward Chen plays the inmate, jailed seven years earlier for murdering his girlfriend and insisting he was framed. Liu turns his own hostage-taking into content, announcing on his channel that he will reinvestigate the case, and the digging turns up secrets that reach into his own life. Chen I-fu, credited in English as If Chen, directed. The Chinese title translates literally as Truth after crime, the film runs a full two hours, Netflix carries it internationally, and the role earned Chang a Best Leading Actor nomination at the 59th Golden Horse Awards.

Exactly one outlet noticed Liu's watch: Montres-de-luxe, the French watch magazine whose column Un jour, une montre, un film pairs films with the watches inside them. Its entry is a spotter's field note: Chang wears a steel Rolex Datejust with a black dial, the watch appears several times across the film, and he wears it on the inside of his left wrist. That last detail holds up. In a production still of Liu reading at his desk, wedding band on his finger, a steel bracelet and case edge sit exactly where the column says they should, turned to the inside of the left wrist. What never appears is a close-up clear enough to read the dial, so the model rests on that single French entry. The Datejust line itself dates to 1945, when Rolex introduced it as its first self-winding waterproof chronometer to show the date in a window.
