Jon Hamm wears an Omega Speedmaster

Lucy in the Sky is Noah Hawley's 2019 film, loosely based on the Lisa Nowak case, the NASA astronaut who in 2007 drove across the country to confront a romantic rival. The film keeps the outline and changes nearly everything else. Natalie Portman plays Lucy Cola, who comes back from a spacewalk subtly broken and starts to come apart. Jon Hamm plays Mark Goodwin, the fellow astronaut she has an affair with and who pulls away as she unravels. The film was a box-office failure.

Goodwin wears an Omega Speedmaster Professional, which is the literally accurate choice, because the Speedmaster is the watch NASA flight-qualified for spaceflight in 1965. Four brands answered NASA's call, but Hamilton sent a pocket watch and was thrown out before testing began. That left the Omega against a Rolex Cosmograph and a Longines-Wittnauer, both of which failed when the test chamber heated up, the Rolex's hands warping, the Longines' crystal popping loose. The Speedmaster came through every test and has been standard issue ever since.

Portman's Lucy wears an Omega as well, the quartz Speedmaster X-33, so both of the film's astronauts are in the brand, the old hand-wound Moonwatch on one wrist and its modern electronic cousin on the other.
