Johnny Hallyday was the French Elvis, a rock star so woven into the country that when he died in December 2017, crowds filled the Champs-Élysées for his funeral. He acted as much as he sang, and in Claude Lelouch's Salaud, on t'aime (We Love You, You Bastard), he plays Jacques Kaminsky, a war photographer whose best friend fakes a terminal illness to reunite him with his four grown daughters. Lelouch, who had been directing since the 1960s, shot it as a loose family drama.

On Kaminsky's wrist is a Chopard L.U.C Chrono One in white gold. The L.U.C line is Chopard's in-house haute horlogerie, named for the founder Louis-Ulysse Chopard and built at a separate manufacture in Fleurier, and the Chrono One is its chronograph. Inside is a column-wheel flyback movement, certified as a chronometer by the COSC, with around sixty hours of reserve; in its original form the watch was a 44-millimeter case in precious metal. It is a classically styled chronograph rather than a showpiece.

Kaminsky made his living in war zones with a camera, and a white-gold Chopard reads as something a man like that could have bought himself. Hallyday made one more film after this one, Lelouch's Chacun sa vie, released in 2017, the year he died.
