In the courtroom scenes of Gotti (2018), John Travolta sits in a sharp blue suit and gray turtleneck while his lawyer leans in to whisper, playing the Gambino boss whose acquittals earned him the nickname the Teflon Don. Kevin Connolly's film had a harder time than its subject ever did in court: announced in 2010, it languished for years, lost Lionsgate as its distributor on the way to a Vertical Entertainment release, and arrived to one of the strangest review splits on record, zero percent from critics against an eighty percent audience score that drew allegations of manipulation.

The watch on Travolta's wrist did not come from a prop house. John Gotti Jr. served as a consultant on the film and, as Time+Tide reported, supplied Travolta "with several of his father's personal possessions, including overcoats, Brioni ties and Piaget watches." Wrist Enthusiast put it plainly: "Travolta actually wore Gotti Sr.'s Piaget during the film." The watch is a Piaget Ultra-Thin in white gold, reference 9765, set with diamonds, on a white-gold bracelet. It is a slim dress watch of exactly the kind that hides under a suit cuff, and in the film's publicity stills that is where it stays.

The real Gotti, in Time+Tide's words, "was famously known as the 'Dapper Don' for his always impeccable appearance and love of quality threads." Some of the film's threads came straight from his closet: the overcoats and the Brioni ties were Gotti's own, and so was the Piaget.
