John Travolta plays James in Look Who's Talking, a cab driver who becomes a father figure to a baby born to an accountant whose married lover abandoned her. Amy Heckerling directed this 1989 comedy, which uses Bruce Willis as the voice of the baby to narrate his observations about the adults around him. Travolta's James is the obvious romantic partner for Kirstie Alley's Mollie, and the film follows the standard formula of two people who belong together taking 90 minutes to figure it out. The movie was a surprise hit, coming at a low point in Travolta's career between Grease and his Pulp Fiction comeback, and it spawned two sequels. Heckerling had directed Fast Times at Ridgemont High and brings a similar looseness to the comedy, letting Travolta's charm carry scenes that could have been saccharine. The talking-baby gimmick dates the film, but Travolta and Alley have genuine chemistry. His watch has not been identified.
