Jack Ryan sits at a cluttered CIA desk, surveillance photographs pinned to the board behind him and case files spread across the table, a black binder in his hand. James Greer, who runs his division, leans in with an open hand to press a point. Ryan is a finance analyst who flagged a suspicious money trail and got pulled out from behind the desk into the field. John Krasinski plays him in Amazon's Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, which began in 2018. As he reaches across the desk, the watch shows on his wrist.
It is a steel Hamilton Khaki Field, the company's military three-hander: a polished steel case, a dark dial ringed with pale numerals, light hands, a worn leather strap. The Khaki Field descends from the watches Hamilton built for the United States military, an American name that now makes its watches in Switzerland. Hamilton outfitted the show and lists it on its own watch-spotting page.
The Hamilton that got the press tour was a different watch. For the premiere the company pushed the all-black Khaki Field Auto Chrono, reference H71626735: a 42mm chronograph in black PVD with a black-on-black dial, the automatic H-21 movement, a 60-hour reserve and a day-date, about 2,100 dollars, and Hodinkee ran it in 2018 as Jack Ryan's watch. The one actually on his wrist here is the plain steel Khaki Field, the version Hamilton sells for under a thousand dollars, with no chronograph at all.
