- Actor
- John Goodman
- Character
- Walter Sobchak
- Watch
- Casio G-Shock (Ref. DW-5900)
- Status
- Confirmed
Walter Sobchak pulls a handgun in a bowling alley over a foul line, certain Smokey's toe crossed it and the frame should be scored zero. On his wrist is a black Casio G-Shock, the DW-5900, the model Casio calls the Three Eye for the three circular displays set above its main readout. The case is 51mm of black resin, 15.5mm thick, rated to 200 meters.
John Goodman wears it throughout The Big Lebowski as Walter, a Vietnam veteran and friend to Jeff Bridges's Dude. It is his everyday watch, worn in the bowling alley, at the alley bar with a cigarette, and through the ransom plot the Coen brothers thread around the Dude's soiled rug. The 1998 film was dismissed on release and found its audience later on home video.
It is a standard G-Shock of the period, black resin on a black strap, ISO-rated for 200 meters of water resistance, and it costs a fraction of nearly any other watch in this archive.
