Resco Instruments is not a name you will find in a watch magazine. A retired Navy SEAL named Rob Smith started the company in Coronado in 2009, building rugged watches for the people he had served with, and its customers are mostly special-operations soldiers and the veterans who used to be them. So putting one on Joel Kinnaman's wrist in The Suicide Squad is a quiet, specific choice. Kinnaman plays Colonel Rick Flag, the one straight-arrow professional soldier in James Gunn's team of criminals, the same role he played in David Ayer's 2016 version, only here a little more sincere about it.
The watch is a Resco R-TAC GMT, a tactical mission timer with a black coated case, a matte black dial with SuperLuminova markers, a second time-zone hand, an internal bezel you turn with one of its two crowns, and a black nylon strap with blacked-out hardware. The watch-spotters who tracked it down argue over the exact color trim, green or aqua.
No watch publication identified it. The trail runs through a prop-collector forum and a couple of aggregator sites, the kind of place where someone posts a screen grab and asks if anyone knows the reference. It reads like the choice of a costumer who knew what a man like Flag would actually wear, a watch that works precisely because almost no one in the audience would clock it.
