Seijun Suzuki's Branded to Kill (1967) follows Goro Hanada, the yakuza underworld's self-styled Number Three killer, through a black-and-white fever dream of botched contracts and mounting paranoia. Jo Shishido plays him, cheeks famously puffed out by cosmetic surgery, half tough guy and half cartoon. The film was strange enough that Nikkatsu fired Suzuki not long after it, unhappy with movies the studio considered incomprehensible.

A watch-spotting forum reads the watch on Hanada's wrist as an Omega Seamaster De Ville, the dressy 1960s date model from before De Ville broke off into its own line. It is a single tentative call with no clean frame to back it, and in the stills here Hanada is flat on his back beneath a truck in heavy work gloves, with no watch in view at all. So it stays a possibility rather than a fact.
