Jim Caviezel wears a Casio G-Shock

Angel Studios released Sound of Freedom on the Fourth of July, 2023, with a ticketing experiment attached: a pay-it-forward system that let supporters buy seats for strangers. The film, directed and co-written by Alejandro Monteverde, cost 14.5 million dollars and grossed 251 million, which made it one of the most successful independent films ever released. Jim Caviezel plays Tim Ballard, a Department of Homeland Security agent who leaves the agency to chase a trafficking network into Colombia. The real Ballard founded Operation Underground Railroad, and departed it in 2023 after an internal investigation concluded he had engaged in unprofessional behavior that violated the organization's policies and values. Critics split at 58 percent on Rotten Tomatoes; opening-night audiences graded the film A plus.

The watch is the costume's most specific piece of kit, and it was identified before most people had seen the film. G-Central, the G-Shock specialist site, spotted a Rangeman GPR-B1000 in the official trailer and in photographs of Caviezel from the set. The GPR-B1000 sits in Casio's Master of G series: a Rangeman with GPS navigation, environmental sensors, and solar-assisted charging, built to the shock and mud resistance the line is named for, and since discontinued by Casio. In the family breakfast still, the big black case rides his right wrist as he drinks his coffee.

The film's afterlife was louder than its release: the pay-it-forward receipts, the politics that attached themselves to the project, the A plus from its audience against the shrug from the critics, and the founder's exit from the organization the film celebrates. On the wrist, at least, the record stays simple: a discontinued GPS Rangeman, caught by the specialists in the trailer before the phenomenon began.
