The premise is a time loop: Samantha Andrews dies, and her boyfriend gets one day to change the outcome. Gil Junger's 2004 romantic fantasy If Only gives Jennifer Love Hewitt the role of the free-spirited musician Samantha, opposite Paul Nicholls as Ian Wyndham, the uptight British businessman who doesn't appreciate her until she's gone. Tom Wilkinson appears briefly as a mysterious taxi driver who may or may not be running the whole arrangement. The film is set in London and shot with the soft, golden-hour lighting that romantic fantasies require.

Samantha wears a Hublot Elegant, one of Hublot's pre-Big Bang designs from the era when the brand was still working out what it wanted to be. Carlo Crocco founded Hublot in 1980 with the idea of combining a gold case with a natural rubber strap, which was considered radical at the time. Before Jean-Claude Biver took over in 2004 and launched the Big Bang, Hublot's lineup was quieter, more classical. The Elegant reflects that earlier identity — smaller, thinner, more restrained than anything the brand produces now.

On Samantha, the Hublot works as character detail. She's a musician, artistic, a little unpredictable, and the watch is just offbeat enough to fit. It's not a Cartier or a Tiffany, which would suggest old-money taste, and it's not a fashion watch, which would suggest she doesn't care about craft. The Hublot sits in an odd space — recognizable to people who know watches and invisible to people who don't. For a character whose arc is about being truly seen by someone, that carries a certain irony.
