Jennifer Lawrence wears a Timex Expedition

Causeway is one of those movies where almost nothing is louder than it needs to be. Jennifer Lawrence plays Lynsey, an Army engineer back in New Orleans after a brain injury, and most of the film seems to happen in the quiet spaces after the obvious disaster has already passed. She cleans pools. She drifts through family conversations. She sits with James, played by Brian Tyree Henry, while both of them try to live with damage that is not especially cinematic.

So what kind of watch belongs in that world?

Not a hero watch, probably. Propstore sold one of Lynsey's screen-used watches in 2024, grouped with the pool-scene pieces: a sports bra, notebook, pens, keys, sunglasses, and a metal Timex on a green nylon wristband. A second Propstore lot also ties a green-strap Timex to Lynsey. The watch in the record is a Timex Expedition, which makes sense in the least glamorous way possible - inexpensive, practical, a little beaten up, and perfectly happy getting wet.

I like that choice. The movie is about recovery as routine, not revelation, and a Timex Expedition is a routine object. You put it on, go to work, get through the day, and do it again tomorrow. Sometimes that is the whole story.
