Dario Argento's Phenomena (1985) stars a fourteen-year-old Jennifer Connelly as Jennifer Corvino, the daughter of a famous American actor, sent to a Swiss boarding school where students are being murdered. Corvino can sense and communicate with insects, and that connection, guided by a wheelchair-using entomologist played by Donald Pleasence, becomes the thread that leads her toward the killer. The film runs on Argento's usual mix of dream logic and sudden violence.
Corvino wears a wristwatch that watch enthusiasts have read, from its jubilee bracelet and cyclops date lens, as a small Rolex Datejust. Rolex introduced the Datejust in 1945 as the first wristwatch to show the date through a window on the dial, and it has been a mainstay of the line ever since.
