Jean-Claude Van Damme wears a Bell & Ross BR 01-94 Carbon

Bell & Ross built its name on a single strange-looking idea: take the round gauge from an airplane cockpit and bolt it into a square case, four screws at the corners, and call it a watch. The BR 01 is that watch, and the BR 01-94 is the chronograph version, the carbon model finished in matte black. Watch-spotting sites have identified the one on Jean-Claude Van Damme's wrist in The Last Mercenary as exactly that, the black carbon BR 01-94, a roughly six-thousand-dollar instrument chronograph.

Van Damme plays Richard Brumere, codenamed The Mist, a legendary French secret-service agent who has been off the grid for twenty-five years and comes back when the immunity deal protecting his son collapses. David Charhon directed it as a Netflix comedy that knows exactly how silly a sixty-year-old Van Damme action movie is, and leans in. In a quiet scene on a white couch, the watch sits on Brumere's left wrist, mostly hidden under the cuff of his leather jacket, a black square you would have to already know to recognize.

That is the catch with this one. The identification lives on a watch-spotting aggregator, not in any film coverage or anything Bell & Ross has said, and the watch is never held up to the camera. It is a good guess about a distinctive watch, the square cockpit case that almost no one but a collector would clock on a blurry wrist in an action comedy.
