Aaron Sorkin built Being the Ricardos around a single production week of I Love Lucy in 1952, with three fires burning at once. A columnist has named Lucille Ball as a communist. The tabloids are printing stories about Desi Arnaz's affairs. Lucy is pregnant, and CBS does not want a pregnant woman on television. Javier Bardem plays Desi through the middle of all of it.
The real Desi Arnaz built a television empire and ran it, and he wore almost nothing on his hands while he did. He kept to a gold wedding ring on his left hand, a plain gold dress watch, and little else. Bardem's costume follows that lead. The designer Susan Lyall kept him light on jewelry, and the watch on his wrist is a gold round-cased piece on a black leather strap.
No one has put a brand to it. BAMF Style, the costume site that tracks screen-worn clothing down to the buckle, could only describe it as an elegant gold dress watch, and turned instead to the real Desi's wrist in the original episode "Fred and Ethel Fight" to judge how close the match was.
