Jamie Smith wears an unidentified watch

Stanley Kubrick made Killer's Kiss for about $75,000, shooting guerrilla-style on New York streets with a crew small enough to fit in a single car. It was his second feature, released in 1955, and it already showed the visual obsessions that would define his career. The mannequin factory climax, where Jamie Smith's Davy Gordon fights his way through a warehouse of dismembered limbs and blank faces, is pure Kubrick even at 27.

Smith plays Davy as a boxer near the end of his rope, living in a shabby apartment across from a dance hall where Gloria Price (Irene Kane) works. When Gloria's boss Vincent Rapallo (Frank Silvera) turns violent, Davy gets pulled into a confrontation that ends in that surreal factory chase. A watch is visible on Davy's wrist in several scenes but the brand hasn't been identified — not surprising for a film where the entire wardrobe budget was probably less than a decent timepiece costs today.
