James Woods wears a Rolex Datejust

True Crime (1999) runs on a deadline in the most literal sense. Clint Eastwood directs himself as Steve Everett, a hard-drinking Oakland Tribune reporter who decides, on the morning of a scheduled execution, that the man due to die at midnight might be innocent. James Woods plays Alan Mann, the editor who has to decide how much line to give a reporter he only half trusts, with the clock already running.

The watch itself is barely documented. A single French site identifies Mann's as a Rolex Datejust on a Jubilee bracelet, but it names no scene, shows no photo, and cites nothing, and no watch publication or auction listing repeats the ID. The film never gives Mann's wrist a clean look either. The Datejust has been in Rolex's lineup since 1945, when it became the first wristwatch to show the date in a window on the dial. Here, though, it stays an attribution rather than a confirmed sighting.
