Bill Denbrough crouches at the storm drain where Pennywise took his little brother Georgie twenty-seven years earlier, one hand flat on the wet pavement, and a steel Rolex Datejust shows at his cuff. James McAvoy wears that Datejust throughout Andy Muschietti's It Chapter Two (2019): a Jubilee bracelet, what reads on screen as a silver dial, and a fluted white-gold bezel as the only flourish on an otherwise plain watch. Maria Simonelli, who worked the film's props department, has talked through its watches in an interview.

Denbrough is Stephen King's stand-in, the Losers' Club kid grown up into a successful horror novelist. The real King is not a Rolex man: he has been photographed wearing a Timex Easy Reader, the watch that takes a licking and keeps ticking. His fictional, Hollywood-based alter ego gets the steel Datejust instead.

The reference has never been documented, and the dial is rarely held in focus long enough to read, so the watch stays a Datejust at the family level. It is on McAvoy's wrist in the flashlight-lit dark of an abandoned house and still there when the grown Losers corner Pennywise. King, more hands-on with this film than he was with Kubrick's The Shining, takes a cameo of his own.
