Jake Gyllenhaal wears a Victorinox Chrono Classic XLS MT

Eight minutes. That is how long Colter Stevens has each time he is sent back into the body of a stranger on a Chicago commuter train. Duncan Jones directed Source Code (2011), his second feature after Moon, from a screenplay by Ben Ripley. Jones is David Bowie's son, and both of his first two films are smart, contained science fiction made on modest budgets. Gyllenhaal plays Stevens, a decorated Army helicopter pilot who wakes up on the train with no memory of how he got there, eight minutes before a bomb goes off. Michelle Monaghan sits across from him. Vera Farmiga runs the program from a remote facility. The film is 93 minutes long and wastes none of them.

The Victorinox Chrono Classic XLS MT on Stevens' wrist has a countdown timer, which is exactly what you want when your entire existence runs on an eight-minute clock. The watch is a 45mm steel case with gunmetal PVD coating, analog hands over two LCD windows, and a digital chronograph accurate to a hundredth of a second. It also has a perpetual calendar and GMT function, but nobody in this film cares about time zones. The countdown is what matters.
