At the Suicide Squad junket in the summer of 2016, a reporter asked Jai Courtney about the Easter eggs hidden in Captain Boomerang's costume. Courtney held up his wrist. "This is a real Breitling watch, that's worth $30,000," he said, and then, of the gold piled on everywhere else: "The bling's fake." He plays Digger Harkness, an Australian bank robber he called a complete bogan, the role David Ayer reportedly told him to find by reaching for his inner shitbag.
So the trashiest man in the movie is carrying its single most expensive object. Every other flash on Boomerang is costume-shop counterfeit, and the one thing wardrobe did not fake is the watch: a genuine Breitling, worth more than every fake on him put together. Courtney never said which Breitling, and no watch site has settled the model since, so the dial keeps the only fact its owner volunteered. It is real.
That is the quiet joke of the costume. Suicide Squad spent a fortune making everything look expensive and lethal, and the one thing that was actually expensive is a watch most of the audience never clocked, strapped to the wrist of the squad's least trustworthy member. Boomerang is a thief. He would have lifted a watch like that off someone else. Instead he wore it to work, the one real thing on a man built entirely out of fakes.
