Jackson Hurst wears an unidentified watch

In Hot Air, Harold "Major" Patterson fakes his own death to escape a life sentence. His own funeral is where he learns he has a son he never met, so he sets out to find him. Jere Burns plays Patterson and Matthew Gray Gubler plays the son, Lesley. The search becomes a comic adventure, with Gary Cole as the Aviator, a historical figure who appears as Patterson's imaginary friend.

Derek Sieg directed the film and wrote it with Jeremy Goldstein. They shot it around Austin in 2014 and released it in 2016, at one hundred minutes. The supporting cast fills in the people Patterson moves through on the way to his son. Schuyler Fisk plays Summer and Christa Miller plays Kate.
