Vida Blue, the Oakland A's pitcher who had just won the American League Cy Young Award and MVP, appears in Black Gunn as a character named Sam Green. The 1972 crime film was directed by Robert Hartford-Davis and written by Franklin Coen and Robert Shearer. Jim Brown plays Gunn, a Los Angeles nightclub owner pulled into a war between the mob and a militant group, the Black Action Group, after the group robs one of the mob's bookmaking operations. Herbert Jefferson Jr plays Scott Gunn, Gunn's brother, a Vietnam veteran who leads the group and masterminds the robbery. Martin Landau is the syndicate boss Capelli, and Luciana Paluzzi, who played Fiona Volpe in Thunderball, appears as Toni.

The watch is Scott's, not the nightclub owner's: a steel Rolex GMT-Master, reference 1675, fitted with the all-black bezel rather than the red-and-blue Pepsi the model is known for. Rolex introduced the 1675 in 1959, adding crown guards to the first GMT-Master, a watch built for Pan Am pilots tracking a second time zone. Only one watch-spotting source has recorded it, and the watch is hard to make out in available stills.
