Glen Powell wears an Omega Speedmaster

Sony released Anyone But You three days before Christmas 2023, a Will Gluck comedy written with Ilana Wolpert and lifted, openly, from Much Ado About Nothing: Sydney Sweeney's Bea and Glen Powell's Ben meet in a coffee shop, connect instantly, part badly, and six months later find their siblings engaged to each other, which strands the two of them at the same wedding in Sydney. They fake a relationship to keep the family peace. The film became a sleeper hit, 220 million dollars worldwide, big enough to restart the industry conversation about romantic comedies in theaters.

Ben's watch is the most deliberately old-fashioned Speedmaster Omega makes. Montres de Luxe identified it as a Speedmaster Chronoscope in bronze, and Omega's catalog fills in what that means: a 43 millimeter case in Bronze Gold, the brand's own alloy, an oxidised bronze dial finished with a deliberate patina, a brown ceramic bezel with its tachymeter in vintage enamel, and three timing scales printed across the dial in the snail pattern of 1940s chronographs, a tachymeter, a pulsometer, and a telemeter, for speed, pulse, and distance. The movement is the Calibre 9908, and it winds by hand. The Chronoscope line arrived in 2021, built to the look of the chronographs Omega made in the 1940s.

In the film's key art, Powell and Sweeney sit back to back on a harbor buoy, soaked, the Opera House behind them, and a watch shows dark on his crossed left wrist. It matches the project: a 1940s design brought back, in a film whose success had people talking about bringing back the romantic comedy.
