Lee Gates hosts a financial cable show with the manner of a game-show host, firing stock tips between sound effects and dance moves. In Jodie Foster's Money Monster (2016), one of his picks, a company called IBIS, has just lost around 800 million dollars of other people's money to a trading glitch, and a small investor named Kyle Budwell, played by Jack O'Connell, who put his savings into it, walks onto the live set with a gun and a bomb vest and takes Gates hostage on air. George Clooney plays Gates.

Clooney is Omega's longtime ambassador, so a Speedmaster on his wrist is half real life. The twist is that this one is gold. It is the gold twin of the Speedmaster Professional that NASA flew to the moon, the same hand-wound movement and the same black dial, cased in 18-karat yellow gold on a gold bracelet, a version Omega built only occasionally and eventually stopped making. There is no clean shot of the dial in the film, so the exact reference stays a guess, and it is not even clear whether Omega lent it for the shoot or Clooney wore one from his own collection.

The steel Moonwatch is a tool, a few thousand dollars, the watch you would actually take to space. The gold one is the same machine turned into a trophy at several times the price, and Gates wears it the way he wears the gold ring on his hand, as a man who treats money as a show. It fits him better than it would fit an astronaut.
