Brad Bird spent most of his career in animation, directing The Iron Giant, The Incredibles, and Ratatouille, before his first live-action film, Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, led Disney to hand him Tomorrowland (2015). He and Damon Lindelof wrote it together. George Clooney plays Frank Walker, an inventor who as a boy visited a gleaming parallel future at the 1964 World's Fair and was later exiled from it. Britt Robertson plays Casey Newton, the teenager who pulls him back in, and Hugh Laurie plays the man running the place.
The watch on Clooney's wrist is a vintage Omega Constellation, and the watch press narrowed it to a 1958 Automatic Chronometer. Omega launched the Constellation in 1952, and the vintage versions are known for a faceted 'pie-pan' dial and a caseback stamped with the observatory medallion that marks Omega's chronometer record. The pairing was no accident: Clooney has been an Omega ambassador for years, and Omega wrote up the placement itself. The film is fixated on time, and Frank warns at one point that with every second that ticks by, the future is running out.
