Michael Clayton is a fixer at a major New York law firm, the man they call at three in the morning when a client has done something that has to disappear before sunrise. George Clooney plays him in Tony Gilroy's 2007 thriller as a lawyer good at the work and worn down by it, carrying gambling debts and the wreckage of a failed bar investment. Tom Wilkinson plays Arthur Edens, the firm's lead litigator who breaks down mid-deposition once he accepts that the agrochemical company he is defending is guilty, and Tilda Swinton won an Oscar as Karen Crowder, the company's counsel trying to contain him. Sydney Pollack is the managing partner who sends Clayton in to clean it up.

Jaeger-LeCoultre supplied the film's watches, credited in the end titles under the line Watches provided by Jaeger-LeCoultre, and the watch on Clooney's wrist, a white dial on a dark leather strap, is one of the brand's Master Controls. Jaeger-LeCoultre introduced the Master Control in 1992 and named it for the 1000 Hours Control test each watch went through before it left the factory. It is a plain three-hand dress watch, about as understated as a luxury watch gets.
