Gene Hackman wears a Rolex GMT-Master

Crimson Tide (1995) is a two-hander about a nuclear submarine and the two men who disagree about whether to launch. Gene Hackman plays Captain Frank Ramsey, the old-school commander who trained under Hyman Rickover and believes the last confirmed order is the only order that counts, against Denzel Washington's executive officer, who wants to wait. The argument is the movie.

On Ramsey's wrist is a Rolex GMT-Master with the red-and-blue Pepsi bezel, though not a real one. Prop Store, out of property master Mike Papac's collection, sold it as a production-made replica: a static nonfunctional case dressed up to read as a Rolex, down to a Pepsi bezel, a rubberized Seiko band, and a Rolex inventory sticker still numbered 20646. It is the watch of a career officer who would never waste money on a real one, which is exactly why the production faked it.
